Nicolas Salé Nicolas Salé moved to New York in 2008 from France. He is self-taught. In his paintings Nicolas continually explores the relationship of colors, lines and stroke to one another and to the flat surface of the canvas. Landscapes, abstract compositions and portraits comprise the context within which the primary elements of color, line and stroke strive to reach an exuberant unity and cohesion.
Nicolas’ paintings demand participation on the part of the viewer to complete the composition visually. They are invitations to viewers to enter the space on the canvas and explore the source of that fleeting emotional connection that held their gaze at the first encounter that only took one split second. To identify that source may be at best challenging but its presence is undeniable.
